This is just a digital concept sketch that I put together. I had the idea to make a giant triangle by building a wooden frame and stretching black cloth around it. I would then drive to different locations, put it together, and photograph the strange monsterous shape within a landscape. I like how it is a very simple form, yet gigantic, momentous and yet empty at the same time, as if it’s not even part of the image, but rather a hole right through it… Maybe someday I’ll remember this idea and build the triangle.
Sunset Quotes: Terence McKenna
“Nature is not our enemy, to be raped and conquered. Nature is ourselves, to be cherished and explored.” – McKenna is one of those incredibly rare minds that we only see every so often. Some may think he is crazy, and at times I do myself, however you cannot doubt his incredibly level of intelligence, creative thinking, historical analysis, and his ability to speak and have everyone listening in complete awe. One thing Terrence always spoke of is how we are neglecting nature, and that this is a huge downfall of the modern day human race. We think we are different from nature, we call it ours, but we are nature. If we don’t realize that very soon it could be the end of us.
I filled a container with water, aimed a laser at the surface so that it refracted onto the wall. I then played a very low frequency through a vibration speaker that created patterns on the surface of the water: Cymatics.
What you see here is the reflection of moving light patterns on the wall, a combination of 3 different frequencies blended together. This is a new installation I am working towards.
Sunset Quotes: Ram Dass
“As long as you have certain desires about how it ought to be you can’t see how it is.” – A Harvard professor named Richard Alpert traveled to India where he met someone who would change his life forever. A Hindu guru Neem Karoli Baba, Maharaj-ji, opened him to a whole new way of seeing life and he became known henceforth as Ram Dass. He has been a huge guiding voice for me. I have listened to hours upon hours of his lectures. Sometimes what he says is so simple, and yet so meaningful for me at that exact moment in my life… I have a bad habit of wishing for more, hoping for a particular vision of the future, and many times this does blind me from the amazing life I have in the present. Be here now!
Sandy Skoglund, “Revenge of the Goldfish”, 1981
Skoglund is a photographer interested in the juxtaposing elements of sculpture within an environment. Much of her work emphasizes both color and repetition. She began with objects but soon became interested in documenting scenes she would create – many times using models within the space… I enjoy her work for its surreal qualities of mixing sculptural elements with the real world as well as her blunt use of color. Check out all of her later works as well. See more at http://www.sandyskoglund.com/
