Optical Art

(art for your eyeballs)

I focused months of my time on creating simple black and white compositions that deal with visual perception and optical trickery. I am clearly channeling the early 1960’s work of painter Bridget Riley, and other op artists at the time. I am an automation geek, and a computer nerd, and so I would begin with some simple shape in Adobe Photoshop (a circle or square), then repeat, blend, and alter the shape over and over. After creating well over 100 images, I began to sit with each to see how the simple act of looking made my eyes and my brain feel. What a strange sensation. I then printed them and showed them in a solo exhibition entitled “Altered States“.
