Gardens Of Perception

(plants through experimental optics)

When we look, we don’t simply see – we think. We contemplate form. Seek understanding. Notice similarities, differences, and detect patterns. We catalog, compare, uncover memories, and feel emotions. We don’t see things with our eyes, we see them with our mind. These thoughts have inspired me to create imagery that begs more of the viewer.

In this body of work, I am using a camera alongside experimental optics in order to achieve an image that relates more to poetry and perception than your typical photograph. I refer to my method as Fresnel Photography. Shooting the subject through a large Fresnel lens allows me to capture an image, right in camera, that has painterly and ethereal qualities.
