(about the artist)
Shane McGeehan is an artist currently living and working in Waverly, PA. He has completed his MFA at The Ohio State University with a focus in photography, digital art, and kinetic installation work. Shane earned his BFA from Syracuse University in computer art while also spending a semester studying at the Rhode Island School of Design as a visiting student in photography. His work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and his MFA thesis work was recently shown as part of an exhibition entitled Phase Shift at the Urban Arts Space in Columbus, Ohio.
Much of Shane’s creative process is in collaboration with his partner Laurie Otto, such as their Visions series of surreal photography. His latest work explores surreal realms of perception through the use of experimental camera optics, digital manipulation, colored lights, and a darkened viewing space. Shane’s process sometimes involves the addition of high and low tech effects as well as audio soundscapes. He has been known to utilize experimental methods of image capture involving flatbed scanners, large format film, microscope optics, makeshift lenses, and even a collection of vintage cameras. When he is not working in his studio, he enjoys teaching, hiking, crafting, dancing, and cooking butternut squash.
