Forest of Illumination

(a series of large-scale color morphing photographic prints)

When it comes to spirituality, nature is my place of worship. While biking in the woods, hiking up a mountain, boating through a lake or just looking up at the stars, I am given a sense of oneness, a connection, a feeling of belonging. Forest Of Illumination was designed to give the viewer a moment of perceptual awe, symbolizing this transcendent experience.

The series takes two forms: Regular black and white photographic prints and a perceptual installation. Each image was taken on 4×5 black and white film. The negatives were then scanned, manipulated, and given bright hues of color. The installation consists of large scale prints on cloth, and within a darkened space, the ink reacts to two fading light sources. This visual effect creates a strange hypnotic moment of perception.
